Emerging Player Program

The Emerging Player Program 2026 is only open to young talented players who are the next generation of elite cricketers in Victoria.

To qualify for a position in the Emerging Player Program you must have been listed in the squad for your area in the recent Craig Shield competition.

The program is an exciting mix of practical sessions combined with the latest innovations in cricket.

The program exposes you to former Test greats and elite coaches and their methods at this vital stage of your cricket career.

2026 coaches include Merv Hughes, Rob Quiney, Rangana Herath, Adam Dale, Lloyd Mash, Ray Bright, Graeme Vimpani & Graham Yallop. The program starts with a lecture from former Test legend Merv Hughes and covers all aspects of the game including advanced fielding with Australian Baseballer Grant Weir & fitness with leading industry expert Aaron Whear (Career Fitness).

Over the past 32 years our stellar coaching panel has consisted of over 50 former International Test Cricketers. Please see below a comprehensive list of all of our former coaches spanning from all over the world!

On the clinics we also have up to 100 Senior cricketers and current SBCC staff coaches who will be serving as group coaches on each of the camps.

Former test Captain of Australia with a highest test score of 268. An elegant player who was a master of all strokes and is our most experienced coach.
Merv Hughes

Merv's 212 Test wickets put him up with the all-time greats of Australian cricket. Merv will delight all with his manner and insight into cricket & his expertise in coaching fast bowlers of all ages.
Rangana Herath
Ray Bright
Ray Bright

A veteran of 25 Test matches for Australia and current Victorian State selector. He is also a former vice-captain of Australia and a long-serving captain of Victoria. Ray played in both Centenary Test's, World Series Cricket and was a hero of the famous ties Test vs India! Ray is the best spin bowling coach in the state.
Rob Quiney

A five time Sheffield Shield winning batsman for Victoria, Rob worked his way into the Australian Test team in 2012. He is a Big Bash Legend for the Melbourne Stars and a great additional to our coaching team who is very popular where ever he coaches.

The program will be split into two sections.

  • East/South will be based at Citipower Centre St Kilda.
  • North/West will be based at Clever Cricket in Thomastown.

Times
The program will run 6.30pm till 8.00pm each Sunday at Thomastown and St Kilda.

Starting date
Emerging Player Program starts on Sunday May 24 at Citi Power Centre and runs for 9 sessions across the Winter.
